Indoor and Outdoor Tankless Water Heater

Tankless water heaters can be installed indoors and outdoors. If you are retrofitting a tankless water heater in the place of a conventional tank water heater, you will be installing indoors. When installing a tankless water heater indoors, you are often required to purchase proprietary two-way venting pipe. This means that your existing vent pipe often will have to be replaced with vent pipe specifically designed for your tankless water heater.

The proprietary vent pipe is often very costly. Therefore, sometimes it make more sense to move the cold and hot water pipes to the exterior of the structure to the outside of the house and install a direct vent tankless water heater. Direct vent tankless water heaters do not require the expensive two way vent pipe. Direct vent outdoor tankless water heaters are often a little less expensive that the indoor models. Therefore you might consider spending a little money moving some plumbing pipes to save of having to purchase new vent pipe. Moving the water heater outdoors, will also free up space that can be used indoor storage.
